Goenka Vipassana

The technique begins with the words "I surrender myself completely to Buddha and my present teacher for proper guidance and protection".
The aforesaid 'present teacher' is Mr S.N. Goenka. Those surrendering their previously independent lives to Mr Goenka do not know him any better than the person they are sitting next to, or for that matter anybody in the street. At this point the discerning should ask "was I born to give my life to a stranger?'.
