Spiritual Teacher
From NonSpiritual
A spiritual teacher is one who acts as a guide in a one's quest for "Truth" or spiritual Enlightenment or for experiencing positive feelings and states such as peace, oneness, love, compassion, bliss, etc.
Spiritual teachers usually consider themselves not just as guides to Enlightenment, but as living embodiments of that Enlightenment. Almost universally, they invite and accept followers, deification, veneration and worship. Hence, their company is considered more important, or valuable, than their words or their message.
They offer one or more techniques to their students for their spiritual evolution, which can include:
- Meditation
- Prayer
- Service of others
- Contemplation and Thinking
- Reading of scriptures
- Rituals such as counting the beads of a rosary, chanting, etc.
- Donation of one's time or money
- Becoming an evangelist to guide others
- Asceticism and Fasting
